KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ONTARIO and DENVER, COLORADO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/06/12 -- EDUCAUSE - D2L Ltd. ("Desire2Learn"), a leader in providing innovative learning solutions, announces that California State University, Long Beach ("CSULB") implemented the Desire2Learn Campus Life(TM) solution to develop a public mobile application now available to its students, faculty, administrators and alumni. CSULB delivers a fully customized mobile application that delivers important student services information to users' preferred Android(TM), iOS or BlackBerry® device.
A customer since 2010, CSULB leveraged Desire2Learn Campus Life's interactive drag-and-drop interface to create, test, customize and quickly launch a fully-branded application. The university's new application, CSULB Mobile, offers an accessible, engaging portal that directs users to campus event information, athletics updates, the student newspaper, bus transportation routes, library hours, university maps and direct contact to university police, emergency announcements and the night escort service. The mobile application will also provide students with the ability to log in to the university's online learning environment to access their Desire2Learn ePortfolio, obtain course materials, check grades and interact with classmates from their mobile device.
The mobile application can be downloaded on Google Play, the Apple App Store and BlackBerry App World(TM).
"We are excited to provide the CSULB students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students, and the greater community access to ongoing campus activities and services with a mobile application," said Roman Kochan, Associate Vice President, Academic Technology Services. "Desire2Learn's mobile app has made it possible for CSULB to roll out a university-branded tool and has reduced the amount of time and cost to develop and maintain a similar tool in-house. The app will provide mobile access to campus news, sports updates, upcoming events, shuttle schedules, student services, BeachBoard courses and more."
Desire2Learn Campus Life's intuitive interface makes it easy for any K-12, higher education or corporate organization to build customized, institutionally branded mobile apps quickly. Furthermore, Desire2Learn's open platform encourages a variety of innovative learning solutions and customized utilities to streamline an organization's development processes.
"Mobile technologies are an indispensable tool within today's learning journey," said John Baker, President & CEO of the Desire2Learn family of companies. "Smart phones and tablets are nearly ubiquitous among today's students and fulfill their assumption that critical information is only a few clicks away. Desire2Learn is committed to helping organizations develop their mobile strategy and empower them with the tools they need to execute."
