FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ--(Marketwire - November 09, 2012) - The 2012 Adventure Writer's Competition, sponsored by the Clive Cussler Collectors Society has chosen The Adventures of Jonathan Moore: Skull Eye Island, the new action adventure novel by Peter Greene as the third Grand Master Award winner. "It is a great honor to win the competition," said Greene, "Almost as exciting as meeting Clive Cussler! To have Clive and Dirk Cussler read my book is truly mind-blowing!"
Skull Eye Island, with illustrations by artist Michelle Graham, is the first book in the four-volume Adventures of Jonathan Moore series. Volume 2, Castle of Fire has just been released.
Kirkus Reviews says Skull Eye Island is: "A heartwarming tale of a boy essentially orphaned in search of his father, the novel never ceases to entertain. Greene's swashbuckling tale of high-seas adventure is pure, uncomplicated fun!"
Homeless and alone on the streets of London in 1800, orphaned Jonathan Moore survives this dangerous world using intelligence and determination. His dismal fate changes dramatically one day after he is captured and pressed into service aboard the HMS Poseidon, a forty-four gun fighting frigate of the British Royal Navy. However, there is more to the event than just a change of address. As he tries to solve the mystery of his lost father, Jonathan joins a desperate race across the Atlantic Ocean to Skull Eye Island. He is pitted against sword wielding spies, engages in terrifying ship-to-ship battles and in the end, must match his wits and courage against a ruthless and cunning French Naval Captain and his powerful warship.
Skull Eye Island is unique, being especially written to be read aloud. A former teacher, Greene wrote a story that could be read to youngsters, but still entertain the adults reading the tale. "That is how we create future readers," Greene said. "When youngsters see adults reading and enjoying a story, they want to read as well."
The book is also different because there is no magic or inappropriate material. "Almost every book available for young adults is based upon heroes having magical powers, or stocked with super-natural abilities," said Greene. "Like Jonathan, I believe we all have it within ourselves to do something great, no magic necessary."
Both books are available through Amazon.com, Kindle, Sony eReader, Nook, and Smashwords for apple devices.
