BREA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- Kanex®, a leader of Apple® and iOS connectivity solutions for homes and businesses worldwide, today announced DoubleUp an innovative multiple device charging solution and Honoree of the CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards that simultaneously charges two iOS devices including iPads, iPad Minis or iPhones. Offering two full-power 2.1-amps USB charging ports for a total of 21 watts, DoubleUp provides more power than two separate power adapters.
DoubleUp also features charging status LED indicators, which notifies users when their devices are fully charged and ready for use. The device has two USB ports so any USB power cable can connect to charge, including Lightning and Micro-USB cables.
CNBC's All-America Economic Survey, conducted earlier this year, found that 55 million homes had at least one iPhone, iPad, iPod or Mac computer -- and of those homes with an Apple product had an average of three devices. The report also found that one-quarter of those surveyed were planning to buy a least one more Apple product in the year. With the fast growth of multiple iOS devices in the home, charging those devices and having them ready for use is even more important.
"DoubleUp provides double the power and double the charge as a solution to quick charging for multiple devices simultaneously," said Kelvin Yan, president of Kanex. "Customers should look for devices that provide 2.1-amps per port to know that their charger can charge two iPads at the same time. DoubleUp is unique because it provides 21W of power, enabling devices to charge quicker."
Offered in both black and white high-gloss finishes, DoubleUp is small and sleek to fit into any home or office or can easily be packed for travel.
DoubleUp was also named this week as an Honoree by the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards in the Portable Power Products category. The Awards are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products.
The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:
- Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
- Aesthetic and design qualities, using photos provided
- The product's intended use/function and user value
- Unique/novel features that consumers would find attractive
- How the design and innovation of the product compares to other products in the marketplace
Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries.
