Twisted Pair Solutions Inc., a recognized leader in critical communication applications for secure, real-time collaboration anywhere, on any device, today announced that the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command has recommended the ‘..acquisition of WAVE or equivalent capability to support emergency response operations..’ for military installations. With WAVE deployed, Air Force personnel and local police, fire and other emergency rescue workers would be able to communicate with each other on smartphones, tablets and conventional two-way radios over any secure radio and WiFi network.
The Air Force’s findings are published in a report written by the Air Force Command and Control Integration Center which hosted the Unified Capabilities II (UC II) experiment from 16 July to 20 July 2012 at Langley AFB, VA. This Joint Expeditionary Forces Experiment (JEFX) supported unit level operational needs by experimenting with mobile technologies that included Apple iPhones and iPads. The purpose of the event was to conduct a technical and operational utility experiment on cellular mobile devices’ capability to support collaborative command and control between Air Force first responders, installation command and control centers, on scene commanders and regional authorities.
‘The entire Department of Defense (DoD) is heavily impacted by high communication sustainment costs and the need to move toward IP-based Unified Capabilities,’ the report states. ‘This JEFX successfully explored hardware and software requirements for the utilization and integration of mobile technologies that support unit level requirements during emergency management operations.’
Twisted Pair’s patented WAVE software allows smartphones and tablets to securely connect to existing Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure and enabling existing infrastructure to expand and securely transmit critical voice and data through the use of 4G/LTE devices.
“During heightened threat levels or when incidents occur, base security and appropriate incident management is put at risk when military radio networks can’t communicate easily with civilian first responders and law enforcement agencies,” said Tom Guthrie, Twisted Pair’s President and CEO.
“WAVE creates a tightly integrated communications environment, eliminating borders, boundaries and limitations by uniting all communications devices regardless of technology, manufacturer, frequency or operator.”
WAVE is currently deployed by all branches of the U.S. Military and a growing number of coalition forces. It holds a U.S Army Certificate of Networthiness and is on the NATO Approved Suppliers list.
