Many of you perteneceréis to the generation that some have dared to christen as the "digital natives" and not know more than projected in movie theaters. Many other you have seen the need to make the leap from reel to pixel.
This "Manual workflow in digital post-processing" does not close doors and is aimed as much about others as long as it focuses on digital image processing, the cornerstone of megapixel.
One of the first things I learned in college is that you should always surround yourself with good staff and well-stocked library, any professional worth his salt, the field is, must not give it up and hand like this, with its general lessons , are the door to more specific knowledge. Myself I have at home from a C programming manual to Introduction to critical study of history.
Like a double-edged sword. The extensive index, inevitable in a manual of this nature, is itself the biggest drawback and popular sayings definitely not wrong when he asserts that all trades who.
The book was published this year so we have enough information updated in both software and hardware, which is essential for the first few pages in which we talk about the features that should have work teams. One detail that makes clear that the authors know what they talk about is the reference to the futility of debating whether it is better PC or Mac for editing pictures.
As for shooting everything focuses on fundamental and technical issues and details of the ISO or white balance, leaving the plastic purely for other books on where you can go deeper. Something happens in the subjects engaged in printing or backups where critical mind.
Where did it take longer the book is in the editing, both in revealing the RAW as to finish the final image in Photoshop. Here we have whole chapters devoted to the use of layers in Photoshop, converting to black and white or multi-image techniques such as HDR or panoramic.
One thing I liked is the explanation that makes each one of the filters and options that we use. I give you an example: Many apply an unsharp mask and move the sliders Amount, Radius and Threshold not knowing exactly what to do beyond what they see. Thanks to this book that's over.
It is the great strength of the book, which is designed to last over time and for all in the broadest sense of the word. It is designed to last because as I said before it is released this year and the basis on which they are based are quite current teachings.
"Intended for all" because it will be equally useful to experts as a reference manual for specific questions that may surgirnos as for those who are starting with detailed and illustrated how well presented. Similarly, beyond all levels, is designed for all systems since each explanation comes with the keyboard shortcuts for PC and Mac users
Normally in digital photography books is that all focus on Photoshop when we get into the issue, here goes too far as regards top the image but not for RAW development chapters.
Capture One, Adobe Lightroom, Aperture, Nikon Capture NX Bible or are just some of the different RAW developers analyzed and explained in the book, specifically developed workflow suite both Apple and Adobe on.
I also emphasize the relationship of plugins and scripts for use with Photoshop, some true secret weapon of many professionals.
We are, in short, is one of those manuals that, in my opinion, belong in our library. Do not expect to find here amazing techniques because it focuses more on teaching us how the layers and their properties and blending modes in how to use them to make magic with Photoshop, although I admit I have learned a new technique to approach unknown and seems to be very good .
This "Manual workflow in digital postprocessor" strikes me as one of those written references can not be missed in any library. It covers everything from the very decision to print a special focus on processing.
