In addition, Men's Health Editor Peter Moore has been promoted to VP/Editor of the title, and Executive Online Editor Adam Campbell has been promoted to Editor of MensHealth.com. Both will report to Phillips.
David Zinczenko, who had served as EVP/Editor-In-Chief of the Men's Health brand and GM of the company's Healthy Living Group & Rodale Books, will leave the company by mutual agreement in advance of his contract expiration at the end of the year. He will continue to work with the company as an author for Rodale Books.
"Bill's ten years of editorial and digital expertise at the Men's Health brand make him the perfect choice to oversee such a venerable title," said Rodale. "Over the past decade, he and his team have been instrumental in creating a brand that both advertisers and readers trust, and I have the utmost confidence that he will continue to introduce the unparalleled content that keeps them ahead of the curve. As we enter the 25th anniversary year for Men's Health, we're bringing new vision to this important global brand."
"Dave has been a talented partner for our brand and books business over the past fifteen years. Under his leadership, Men's Health grew to become the largest men's magazine brand in the world, his book franchises were perennial bestsellers, and Women's Health grew at an incredible pace, both domestically and internationally. I am very thankful for his creativity and leadership, and truly wish him all the best as he grows in new ways and in new places."
Phillips joined Men's Health in 2003, serving as the Editor of MensHealth.com as well as Executive Editor of the magazine. During his time as the brand's online editor, Phillips quadrupled traffic from 2.5 million to a record 10 million monthly uniques. The site has been nominated for three digital National Magazine Awards under his leadership and has won twice in the Interactive Tool and Personal Service categories.
Phillips was also the Editor-in-Chief of Men's Health Living, a successful newsstand-only men's shelter magazine published in 2007 and 2008. He has been nominated for National Magazine Awards as both an editor and writer. His 2005 feature, "Hunting My Father's Killer," was a finalist in the Personal Service category. Prior to joining Rodale, Phillips was the Executive Editor of Popular Science. A graduate of Penn State, he resides in Macungie, PA with his wife and two soccer-loving daughters.
Men's Health was among the first titles to launch on the iPad, the first title to launch an iPhone edition, and has won numerous National Magazine Awards since its launch. The title's December ad pages show an +8.7% increase over the 2011 issue. (according to PIB)
