LONDON, December 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
When it comes to snacking on apples, Golden Delicious are the British favourite, with almost a quarter of us preferring them over other varieties, as revealed in a recent survey by, Fruitdrop, the fresh fruit delivery company. This is particularly true of men, with 29% partial to a Golden Delicious apple, known for its sweeter flavour[1], whereas women favour Braeburn (23%).
Granny smith apples are a close second, with 21% of us enjoying this variety most. As one medium apple[2] counts as one of our government recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables per day, snacking on a daily apple can be a healthy habit[3] for Brits.
Britain's top five favourite apples are:
- Golden Delicious (24%)
- Granny Smith (21%)
- Royal Gala (19%) Braeburn (19%)
- Cox (17%)
Ben Thompson, managing director of, Fruitdrop, comments: "Apples are a great snack, ideal while at work or on-the-go. With an extensive variety of cultivars maturing across seasons[4], we can enjoy them all year round. Apples are a customer favourite in our office fruit boxes, with seasonal varieties included throughout the year."
Thompson continues: "Fruitdrop fruit boxes start at just £20, containing enough fruit for up to 25 employees for a week, a small investment to help your workforce towards their five a day."
Fruitdrop specialises in delivering office fruit in London and across the UK.
