LONDON, Dec. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- toptable, the leading consumer destination site for restaurant reservations in the UK, together with its parent company, OpenTable, a leading provider of free, real-time online restaurant reservations for diners and reservation and guest management solutions for restaurants, today announced the release of a major update to its popular app for iPhone and iPod touch, adding new features and functionality to take advantage of the 4-inch Retina display on iPhone 5 and the new iPod touch.

The new toptable app makes it even easier to discover where to dine and make an instantly confirmed, free booking. The "Great Tables" carousel showcases nearby restaurants with availability and a pull-down interactive map lets users easily browse restaurants by location. A quick tap to the pins displayed on the map reveals table availability in real time.
"We are continually looking at ways to improve how diners discover and book restaurants from their mobile devices. The larger display on iPhone 5 and the new iPod touch allowed us to add even more search features and visual elements," said Mike Xenakis, Managing Director for OpenTable Europe. "More and more diners are booking restaurants on the go. In the third quarter, mobile bookings accounted for more than 20 per cent of the diners we seated in the UK."
The update also introduces larger photos in search results, better default locations, and a wealth of Retina-quality images. toptable allows visitors to make free restaurant bookings at nearly 4,000 top restaurants in the UK. Users can search by restaurant name or location, then further filter by cuisine, price, reservation time, or even offers. toptable members can save restaurants to a "favourites list" to book at a later date.
The toptable App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.
