CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announced the latest version of its IPS™ Universal Print Interpreter – the only market-proven software that supports all major print languages and protocols, including printing from Google’s Cloud Print and Apple iOS devices. This latest generation of CSR’s Universal Print Interpreter software, IPS 2012.2, ensures that printers can handle print jobs from the widest variety of sources, including desktop PCs, tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices, on-premise and cloud-based ERP systems as well as graphic arts and engineering applications.
Wireless device users and OEMs are placing increased emphasis on the ability to print from tablets and smartphones, and IPS 2012.2 enables rapid introduction of printers that comply with new wireless printing protocols from major wireless device and device operating systems, including Apple and Google. By incorporating all major print languages into a single architecture, the IPS Universal Print Interpreter is designed to provide OEMs with a highly efficient solution that has superior performance, reduced memory footprint and the lowest integration cost. CSR’s IPS software is used by the top printer manufacturers around the world, including Canon, Epson, Fuji Xerox, HP, Oki, Ricoh, Sharp and Xerox.
For Apple driverless printing, IPS 2012.2 optimises handling of the PDF files generated by Apple’s Quartz® 2D rendering subsystem, and includes extensions for other print formats used by Apple’s iOS and OS X operating systems. IPS 2012.2 also includes extensions to receive print jobs directly via Google’s Cloud Print protocol.
IPS interpreters have emerged as the industry’s most widely-adopted PDL interpreters, and enable OEMs to deliver colour and monochrome printers and multifunction devices capable of printing complex, graphics-rich documents without losing time, quality or data.
“IPS 2012.2, on the strength of its wireless-printing capabilities and ease of integration, has already had significant impact among printer OEMs,” said Anthony Murray, SVP Business Group, CSR. “With this latest version, these manufacturers can quickly offer their users the widest possible number of printing options while making printing from wireless devices – whether from Apple, Google or others – far easier than ever before.”
