SAN MATEO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/12/12 -- ROBLOX, one of the largest user-generated content sites in videogames and the #1 entertainment site for kids according to comScore, has released its ROBLOX Mobile app, allowing users to play ROBLOX on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. The app is available in the iTunes store for free and brings a substantial subset of the ROBLOX desktop experience to mobile, including the ability for ROBLOX users to discover and play user-created levels, browse user-built models, and purchase user-crafted avatar clothing.
To date, ROBLOX builders have created approximately 9.8 million levels, with many of the most popular logging upward of 15 million plays each. ROBLOX Mobile is one of the first and most highly visible iOS apps to feature user-generated content, offering a curated selection of over 100 user-created levels. This spotlight gives ROBLOX builders a new stage to showcase their creations, and ROBLOX players a new platform to consume this content.
"Many ROBLOX builders are teenagers or younger, and ROBLOX Mobile gives them the power to launch their level on the iPad and start playing with friends in minutes," said David Baszucki, CEO. "Game enthusiasts are spending more and more time playing on tablets and phones. Now we can offer ROBLOX builders an easy way to leverage that movement and reach a new audience."
With cross-platform compatibility, ROBLOX Mobile users join game servers populated with other iOS device users and with players of the ROBLOX desktop application (which is available for free on both PC and Mac). This connects Web and mobile ROBLOX users in one shared virtual world.
ROBLOX's online community offers a productive environment for users to spend free time, as they develop programming, promotional, and entrepreneurial skills. Builders can use ROBLOX Studio, a 3D editor, to model anything they can imagine, constructing these models out of virtual blocks. These creations can then be published to the ROBLOX website and shared with other builders. Many creators have built entire virtual worlds out of components published by the ROBLOX community.
The feature-packed ROBLOX mobile app allows users to play ROBLOX games, manage their social network, access their ROBLOX inbox, interact with their ROBLOX groups, browse and purchase items from the ROBLOX catalog, customize their character, and leverage in-app purchases to buy premium subscriptions and virtual currency.
