MIAMI, Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- JockSpin has made it more convenient to read news, opinion, and rumors for your favorite sports and teams. With its just released iOS apps for iPhone and iPad, one easily selects teams, sports, and regions. The app then aggregates headlines from thousands of sources, displaying a page with recent headlines for each of your selections. To navigate between the pages, one merely slides pages from side to side.
"We developed and continue to enhance JockSpin consistent with our corporate design credo, 'Fast and Beautiful,'" states CEO James Hawkins. He continued, "I think it helps that we are users ourselves. With every proposed modification, we intensely think about how it will affect the user experience."
JockSpin believes that sports fans almost universally are interested in multiple teams or sports, but not all teams and sports. They also believe that for all the news and opinion available, most fans remain hungry for more, mainly because they don't find all that there is. As evidence of this appetite, they point to the ascent in recent years of newcomer publishers like SB Nation, YardBarker, and others, not to mention the countless independent publishers.
Checking out the app, one instantly falls in love with the design, which is sophisticated, comfortable on the eyes, and notably functional. Choosing teams and sports is as simple as tapping on them, with no registration required. How refreshing is that? Perhaps the most attractive design feature is the ability to slide from side to side to access individual selected team, sport, or region pages. Setup, navigation, and subsequent modifications to selections are all easy, convenient, and intuitive.
Users are raving about the product, making comments such as "I like that I can flip through my teams and quickly get my sports fix," "beautiful intuitive app," and "will be using it every day." The only knock on it is that when trying to use it on a connection other than WiFi it can be a bit slow to load, a problem seemingly related to one of the more powerful things about the app, the amount of data it must access to generate its multiple pages of headlines.
An app for Android devices is in development, anticipated to publish in the coming weeks. Expected to be almost identical in appearance and functionality, it will open up JockSpin's functionality to the rapidly growing number of Android devices. Numerous other developments are underway to expand and enhance the company's offerings.
Asked how JockSpin came to be, Hawkins explains that as a Miami based "typical sports fan" he found himself hungry for more about the Miami Heat, which had then just signed Lebron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwayne Wade as the anointed Three Kings. As he was checking Boston, Cleveland, and Chicago area new sources for commentary the thought struck him, "there should be an app for that."
JockSpin, online at http://jockspin.com, bases itself in Miami, traditionally known more for bikinis and nightlife than bandwidth and startups. Of late, however, a startup scene has begun to flourish, with incubators including Innovate Miami and Launch Pad Tech, and angel funds including Miami Innovation Fund and New World Angels, leading the way. Hawkins, commenting on this, notes, "We've given thought to moving to San Francisco, Boulder, or some other recognized tech hub, but think we may be in just the right place to participate in if not lead development of a tech scene here in South Florida."
"We're proud of what we have done so far," states Hawkins, "but we're not close to done, and in fact are just getting started." JockSpin's stated goal is 100 million monthly page views in five years. That is a lofty goal, to be sure, but they are certainly off to a good start.
The JockSpin app is available in iTunes at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id581481150.
