After three months of dealing with Apple Maps, iOS 6 users can rejoice as Google has released a native app available for Apple’s mobile platform. Launched early Thursday morning to the App Store, the Google Maps app is once again ready to navigate you around the globe. While the new version doesn’t have the deep iOS integration that Apple Maps offers, it’s also far less likely to strand you in the middle of the Australian desert without water, as was the case for several unlucky travelers earlier this week. The app is sleek, minimal and simple: Tap the box to search; swipe up for info or street view; tap the menu button in the bottom-right corner to toggle different view options; and tap the car icon at the bottom of the screen after a search for directions or to begin turn-by-turn navigation. Yes, that’s right: the new version finally has voice-guided navigation. Your favorite co-pilot is back, and it’s better than ever.
