LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwire) -- 01/09/13 -- Frequency, a free service that delivers the best of online video to consumers via the web, mobile devices, Smart TVs, and other connected devices, today announced that TCL, China's top television manufacturer and 4th largest LCD TV producer worldwide, will pre-install the Frequency app on all future TCL TV models.
The partnership, announced at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), will kick off with the first Frequency app for the Android operating system shipping immediately on the new TCL iCE SCREEN, a Smart Personal Display, followed by other TCL Smart TV lineups in various countries worldwide beginning in Q1 2013.
"The combination of TCL's innovative line of Smart TVs with Frequency's personalized online video experience gives consumers more content choices and an integrated service offering that complements their existing programming options," said Blair Harrison, CEO and founder of Frequency. "Similar to the way people browse TV channels and, increasingly, services like Hulu and Netflix from their Smart TVs, Frequency's app allows TCL iCE SCREEN viewers to easily launch our app and tune in to their favorite video content from anywhere on the internet -- from thousands of major media brands, internet video services such as YouTube and Vimeo, and from their social networks like Twitter and Facebook."
The partnership with TCL supports Frequency's drive to become the go-to service for streaming online video across all one's devices. The Frequency video aggregation service, currently available on the iPhone, iPad, Smart TVs, and on the web, works by continuously finding, indexing, and organizing millions of videos each day from thousands of unique online video sources to deliver a personalized viewing experience. Frequency's recently launched iPhone app is a 2012 Editor's Choice in the Apple App Store.
"Through our partnership with Frequency, we're delivering a new and better way for consumers to experience online video from our Smart TVs," said Stan Hu, director of global business strategy and product planning, LCD Business Unit of TCL Multimedia. "The tight integration of Frequency with our Smart Cloud TVs aligns with our strategy focusing on 'integration, innovation and internationalization,' and ultimately helps consumers get the most from the investment in TCL products."
The first TCL device to have Frequency's app pre-installed is the iCE SCREEN, a 26" LCD Smart Personal Display with a touch screen. This larger size Smart TV device has access to the web and a wide array of multimedia services built on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. The Frequency app will be accessible from the device's home screen.
