The AccuROAM™ platform from Accuris Networks (www.accuris-networks.com) has taken home the top award as the "Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough" at the Global Mobile Awards 2013, announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Accuris Networks is an innovator in next-generation Wi-Fi offload and roaming solutions and its winning product was acknowledged for its achievements in improving user experience and positively impacting the overall mobile market. Accuris Networks had stiff competition for the coveted award. There were more than 600 entries for the 37 awards handed out at a ceremony in Barcelona.
The AccuROAM platform has already proven itself in live deployments with mobile operators worldwide such as AT&T. In addition, Accuris Networks is currently working with the Wi-Fi industry to introduce new-generation capabilities such as WFA Passpoint™ and WBA Next-Generation Hotspot. Accuris Networks works with legacy username and password technology as well as SIM-based authentication, Passpoint and Next Generation Hotspots enabling mobile operators to roll out the next wave of Wi-Fi solutions today
Commenting on the award the GSMA said, “Allowing Wi-Fi roaming for SIM-based devices is an important part of how mobile operators will deal with data traffic cost-effectively and also open up new services and revenues for international roamers.”
AccuROAM’s capabilities uniquely enable Wi-Fi offloading and Wi-Fi roaming together, doing so with SIM-based authentication that doesn't require end-users to deal with cumbersome user names and passwords. It enables any type of Wi-Fi access technology to work as a full extension of GSM or CDMA networks for billing, policy and authentication -- not just for use with data services but for voice and messaging also.
“A particularly promising application for AccuROAM in mobile networks sees Wi-Fi included in small-cell deployments, primarily for offloading, as a way to deal with increasing demand for bandwidth,” said Aidan Dillon, CTO at Accuris Networks. “The conventional approach can be costly and time consuming but using AccuROAM lets carriers keep ahead of subscriber service demands without all the challenges.”
For legacy username and password based Wi-Fi networks, AccuROAM also incorporates mobile software for all smartphones and tablets including Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows devices. This ensures that the mobile operator’s authentication extends onto any kind of Wi-Fi network.
