Security experts this month tested 275 Apple iOS- and Android-based mobile banking apps from 50 major financial institutions, 50 large regional banks, and 50 large U.S. credit unions. Overall, they found eight out of ten apps were improperly configured and not built using best practices software development. Read Original Content

Annual retail payments on mobile handsets and tablets are expected to reach $707 billion by 2018, representing 30 percent of all e-retail by that time, according to Juniper Research. Read Original Content

According to Monetate, e-commerce traffic from smartphones and tablets rose three percent in the last quarter. Wilson Kerr, vice president of business development and sales at Unbound Commerce, thinks Amazon will have generated more than $US20 billion in mobile commerce revenue for all of 2013. Amazon has acquired San Francisco-based mobile commerce outfit GoPago, according to press reports, putting it in competition with the likes of Square and PayPal. Read Original Content

According to a report by 41st Parameter, mobile commerce has grown by 35 percent since the beginning of the year, with e-commerce of all kinds growing by 15 percent over the same period. BIA/Kelsey recently reported 40 percent of small and medium-sized businesses surveyed for its Local Commerce Monitor study now accept payments at the point of sale with a mobile credit card reader attached to a smartphone or tablet, and another 16 percent plan to add this capability within the next 12 months. The move is expected to improve PayPal’s already considerable presence in the mobile space by giving the company access to innovative tools that have been developed by StackMob.
