Ken Fisher Marks 30th Forbes Anniversary

Third-Longest Running Forbes Columnist Celebrates 3 Decades With the Magazine

CAMAS, WA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/08/14 -- The July 21st issue of Forbes magazine marks Ken Fisher's 30th year writing for the publication. Ken Fisher's very first column, "Cherchez the Sales Rep," was published on July 16, 1984, the same year he published his first best-selling book Super Stocks. 389 columns later, he continues to write the monthly Portfolio Strategy column and is one of Forbes' most tenured contributors -- the third longest-running columnist in the publication's 97-year history.

Fisher's longevity is underpinned by his insightful, concise and often witty observations on investing, markets, stocks, economics and politics -- anything and everything to help readers become better investors. He's seen everything from the stock market crash of 1987, the great bull markets of the 1980s and 1990s, to the Tech bubble of 2000 and the global market meltdown of 2008.

"Looking back, 1984 seems remote," Fisher writes in his latest Forbes column. "The Berlin Wall stood firm. Crack cocaine, minivans and Apple's Mac first appeared." But though some of his thinking has evolved over the years, Fisher's steadfast belief in capitalism has helped shape the investment guru he is today. "All equity categories, correctly calculated, create near identical lifelong returns. They just get there via wildly differing paths," he continues. "Believing otherwise disbelieves capitalism and markets -- do so at your own mortal soul's peril. Over time I've come evermore to believe in capitalism and less in most else."

Throughout the years, Fisher has made numerous market calls through the pages of Forbes -- and while his record isn't perfect, he earned a respectable reputation for his forecasting capability. Independent third-party CXO Advisory Group evaluated the accuracy of various experts in predicting the direction of the U.S. stock market. In its final "Guru Grades" report, CXO ranked Fisher 2nd out of nearly 70 industry pundits based on forecasts made in his Portfolio Strategy columns.*

Fisher's Forbes columns were chronicled in the book, The Making of a Market Guru: Forbes Presents 25 Years of Ken Fisher (John Wiley & Sons, May 2010). Current columns are available at Forbes.com, and an archive dating back to 1997 is available at the Fisher Investments website.

In his session at @ThingsExpo, James Kirkland, Red Hat's Chief Architect for the Internet of Things and Intelligent Systems, described how to revolutionize your archit...
