"We will talk about everything related with 3G," says Chang Xiaobing, chairman of China Unicom, when it comes to the negotiations with Apple to introduce iPhone to China. It is the first time for a China Unicom executive to respond to the issue. But it is still an open question whether China Unicom will accept the profit-sharing solutions proposed by Apple.
China Unicom is scheduled to begin another round of negotiations with Apple on March 8. The two parties are expected to show their hands this time. China Unicom is hoping to launch iPhone in China mainland on May 17, the World Telecommunications Day.
The introduction of iPhone is aimed at laying the ground work for China Unicom's WCDMA 3G service, which is scheduled to kick off this May. China Unicom intends to launch WCDMD 3G services first in 55 major cities around the country and in 284 more cities by the end of this 2009.
