Apple’s iPhone is a massive hit; the company has sold
millions of handsets since the product’s launch in June 2007. Within weeks of
the iPhone hitting the market, the first of several highly publicized security
exploits, a Trojan virus targeting the device, was identified.
SMobile Systems has announced that it has ported its
signature application suite, Security Shield, to the iPhone, utilizing the
recently released Apple Software Development Kit (SDK).
“Apple’s iPhone has changed the way consumers use a
‘smartphone.’ iPhone users are browsing the Internet, downloading applications
and conducting transactions on their device. The popularity and buzz
surrounding the iPhone has made it a rich target for hackers or others intent
on gaining notoriety, or stealing personal, business, health or other critical
data stored on these devices,” said Rick Roscitt, chairman and chief executive
officer of SMobile Systems. “As the malware becomes more complex and
increasingly dangerous, the onus must fall on the service provider or Apple to
provide protection for the millions of customers at risk. As of today,
SMobile Systems is providing a true ‘security shield’ that can give these
owners peace of mind.”
Roscitt continued, “Having the proper security protections
available is key to ensuring that each and every iPhone owner can take full
advantage of this device, without having to worry about issues like identity
theft.”
The Apple Software Development Kit was designed to allow
third-party software developers to create new applications that meet Apple’s
high standards.
“SMobile’s engineers have a proven track record of quickly,
efficiently and effectively reengineering our security solutions to meet market
changes,” Roscitt stated. “We were the first to market with a security
solution for the Google Android operating system; and with the release of the
iPhone-ready version of Security Shield, we have the broadest offering for the
widest range of mobile operating systems in the market.”
SMobile’s Security Shield is an integrated application that
includes anti-virus, anti-spam and firewall protection; it has been lab tested
by major telecom companies including AT&T, iPhone’s carrier. In addition,
companies like Nokia, Samsung, VeriSign and others, have tested and certified
SMobile’s security products.
Mr. Roscitt concluded, “We will continue to proactively add
features and functionality to our broad product suite, to ensure that our
security measures stay one step ahead of the threats.”
